Lester W. Humphrey, 80, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his residence February 21st. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 6, 1926, the son of the late James S. and Mabel Tilly (Walton) Humphrey. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II receiving the WWII Victory Medal and the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with three bronze stars.Lester was employed as a Machinist at Switzer for 26 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of Moose Lodge #17 and the American Legion. He is survived by his daughter, Tilly L. Bowman; step daughter, Mary E. (Rick) Ferry; step son, Cary (Sonny) Nash; 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred (William) Reed. Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Gilberta Humphrey and son, Dean Humphrey.Funeral services for Lester will be Monday, February 26 at 1 p.m. in St. PeterÂ’s Lutheran Church, 2525 E. 11th St, Indianapolis with calling starting at 11 a.m. until time of service. He will be laid to rest in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial contributtions may be made to the church.
